Mallicoat, 20, Newton, was arrested at 5:35 a.m. 10 in the 1800 block of First Avenue East and taken to the Jasper County Jail. Kendall was picked up on the warrant at 12:51 a.m. He would not return phone calls or answer his apartment door and a warrant was requested. Kendall was asked to open his backpack, which he did, and staff obtained the book which had Newton Library identifiers. The book was equipped with an anti-theft strip which set off the alarm. According to the Newton Police Department, officer responded to a call from library staff identifying Kendall as the individual who had concealed a “Rock Chronicles” paperback book inside of his backpack and then attempted to leave. Kendall, 36, of Newton, was charged with fifth-degree theft from an incident at 4:28 p.m. The only items the store computer had record of were 10 knit tops totaling $199. Reese admitted to taking home several “damaged” items with her during this time period. According to Newton police, Reese would then take some of the items of her choosing home without paying for them. According to the Newton Police Department, Reese was the store manager of CATO between January 2017 and May 2019 and during that time she openly admitted to removing tags from the new/undamaged store merchandise, processing that merchandise as damaged in the store computer, rendering it worthless when it was, in fact, not damaged. Reese, 29, of Newton, was charged with fifth-degree theft from incidents that occurred between January 2017 and May 2019. Bucklin had previously been caught shoplifting from Walmart and signed a trespass warning on Sept. 26 Walmart loss prevention contacted Newton police regarding a trespass order for Bucklin. She admitted to shoplifting and was arrested. According to the Newton Police Department, Neal was stopped for a domestic disturbance complaint. Neal, 35, of Newton, was charged with driving while barred at 9:25 a.m.
